listening to: Steve Earle - 'Bible and a Gun'
Darkness is my shelter
Emptiness my light
And stranger, heaven help you
If our paths cross tonight
Yeah - you sing it Steve-o - you hard living - been in prison - raised down south darlin'. Its been a month of endless project starting and some finishing. So without further ado - let's start the show...
I've decided to give face cloths and dish cloths for valentines gifts to my mom, grandma and maybe my sisters - they always send me a little something (well my big sister does) so I got on this dishcloth kick. I have a few more that are still in progress - After I block them and wrap them in their appropriate little take out boxes, i'll have better pics and pattern origins.
I tried to only do V-day related colors - pinks, reds, whites, but them I got on a Neopolitan kick and have a few of those too. More to follow. Next i've been working on a little crochet sock monkey and here is his beginnings - he's going to be so super sweet when he's done....
Just another leg, tail, arms and a face and he'll be ready to roll. I think i'm going to give him to one of the kids (younger) as all the 9 and up want Itune cards!
I also started this sneak peek...its a great pattern - which i'll just show up a smidge and hopefully I can finish in the next few weeks....
Not sure you can tell from the pic - but a hint - cables, cables, cables!
And lastly - on my knit/crochet-a-thon for the new year, i've decided to re-do my spare bedroom - because right now its designed in 'yuck' and started this crochet - inspired by the colors i'm using to update - my little spare / craft / catch-all / treadmill storing / yarn overflowing room.
I frogged it once after about 10 rows back down to 5 until I got the color combinations just like I wanted them and now i'm good to go - easy peesy granny square - i'm weaving in ends every 4 or 5 rows as to not pull my hair out in the end. I'm using all cottons from my stash and this will be top of bed - along with something similar for top treatments - i'm still working on that one...can't figure how to do curtains - but know I hate what's in there. Since I turned my ubber cheap craft table find from Dillards floor sample sale into my dining room table - I missed a craft table in there. I think I found one at IKEA - although I've never purchased anything from there - this looks affordable and just about the right size for me. Only thing - its not really my style for the room - but i'll give it a go. Anyone out there bought this table before - can you give me a go ahead??
Its 47 1/2" long - 30" wide and can be raised on the trestles up to 37"...I thought it looked like it could be easily taken apart if needed for storage. JCP had one with cubbies underneath - but it was too much even with my discount. This one is $79.99, I need to watch my pennies since this is the year of travel for me.
Next month (end of Feb) kicks off my 3-trip binge as I travel to NYC with my sis - not really for pleasure - but hey, its a trip none the less. We'll be in Valhalla at the Westchester Medical Center - for my BIL's transplant surgery. He's donating a kidney to his dad. We'll be staying at the hospital most of the time, but I'm planning a trip either into the city or just around the area for yarn. Anyone out there in the White Plains / Valhalla area that can suggest an 'easy-to' yarn store - considering my cab fare budget will interfere with my yarn budget? Back at Christmas - I decided to clean my 'spare bedroom craft closet' and found a tub full of Fox River Mills sock monkey socks and started selling them off on Ebay - I had over 150 and have sold about 60 to date in 6 separate auctions and made almost $300. Then I found this 'Creative Memories paper organizer' that was taking up space since my now-defunked scrapbooking days and I started just to throw it out - or give to my niece, as she was taking most of my discard - but thought...let me look on Ebay and see if this stuff sells - and there was one - it went for mid $30s - so I thought....what the heck. I listed and guess there was a bidding war - because it went for almost $70. Unbelievable! I still have 3 CM totes to list - but the thing I LOATHE most about ebay is the packing and shipping - I always screw myself on the shipping - live and learn, huh.
I've been on a book / magazine buying splurge lately and here's my stash.
Actually, I have to say I was impressed with all of these. I got this book at Joanns with a coupon I think - so it was around $13 and there are alot of patterns in it and cute stories - easy reading.
FC Crochet just blew me away - especially these......
This will be a must this summer to crochet - I just love the look of it - so airy and soft. Then there is this section on home organization - that really got me in the room redo mood for my spare bedroom....all these are great - esp the crochet baskets - which I plan on making a couple of those for my yarn cubbies that are overflowing....
this is just one spread - I think altogether there are 3 spreads of organization and free crochet pattern downloads.
Well - that's it for now - and this is usually the part where I say 'goodnight all you crocheters and knitters' - But its 6:00am in the morning, and I hear the weathergirl calling for possible sleet tomorrow...unbelievable - i'll just say 'Adieu' and happy crafting today!
